Xbox Nano Controller Arrives at $49.99 on November 4
Microsoft has announced the Xbox Nano Controller, a pocket-sized gamepad priced at $49.99 (44.99 pounds). The company calls it the smallest controller it has ever made. Pre-orders are open now, and the launch follows on November 4 across 36 markets. Those markets include the US, the UK, Japan, and much of Europe.
A Tiny Gamepad With Full Controls
The controller measures just over five inches long and weighs a mere 3.5 ounces. Despite its slight frame, it still packs all 18 standard gameplay inputs. It also adds a programmable Action Button for screenshots and gameplay capture.
The Nano connects over Xbox Wireless and Bluetooth. It runs on a built-in rechargeable battery. Moreover, it works with Xbox consoles, Windows PCs, iOS and Android devices, and select smart TVs.
What Microsoft Has Not Shared
Several details remain a mystery. Microsoft has not revealed battery life or color options. Likewise, there is no word on rumble or impulse triggers.
Holiday Bundles Target TVs and VR
Xbox is also lining up holiday bundles in the US. Select Samsung TVs and Meta Quest headsets will come with a Nano Controller. New members will also receive two months of Game Pass Ultimate.
A compact controller for TVs and VR headsets makes the most sense for cloud gaming. However, the timing is not ideal. Starting in November, Xbox Cloud Gaming gets monthly time limits. Ultimate subscribers will be capped at 15 hours, Premium at 10 hours, and Essential at 5 hours. Extra hours will cost more.
A Premium Price for a Small Controller
At $49.99, the Nano costs noticeably more than other compact controllers. For comparison, CRKD’s Atom+ sells for $29.99. Meanwhile, 8BitDo’s Lite 2 sells for $34.99.
Native Xbox Wireless support might justify some of that premium. Still, battery life will probably decide whether the Nano is worth it.
