WhatsApp Introduces Revolutionary Guest Calling Feature
WhatsApp is officially deploying a groundbreaking feature that allows users to invite absolutely anyone to their calls. Remarkably, participants can join even if they lack a WhatsApp account. Furthermore, these calls remain completely free, strictly enforce end-to-end encryption, and impose no frustrating time limits. Guests can effortlessly join conversations directly from their web browser without ever downloading the application or creating a profile.
From Testing to Official Release
In September 2026, initial reports revealed that WhatsApp was actively developing this inclusive functionality. The system utilizes the exact same advanced technology that currently powers their guest chat system. Essentially, the guest simply opens the provided link in their browser and enters the session immediately. However, the host must meticulously approve every single request before any guest can enter the digital room. This mandatory verification step significantly streamlines secure communication with individuals outside the immediate WhatsApp ecosystem.
Today, WhatsApp published an official blog post formally introducing this guest calling feature. The web client intelligently generates a unique cryptographic identifier to encrypt the entire call session securely. Consequently, while only registered users can generate a call link, literally anyone on the internet can join as a guest.
How Guest Calls Work Seamlessly
Users can initiate a guest call by navigating directly to the Calls tab. Next, they simply tap the convenient “+” icon to generate a unique call link. Subsequently, you can distribute this link to anyone without worrying about their current application installation status. For instance, a colleague, a fellow student, or an elderly family member can receive the link and join instantly.
Guests simply open the link via their browser, input their preferred display name, and enter a secure waiting room. Once they arrive in the waiting room, the host must explicitly approve their entry request. These versatile guest calls flawlessly support both intimate one-on-one conversations and massive group calls involving up to 32 participants.
Understanding Guest Capabilities and Restrictions
Through this new system, WhatsApp grants guests access to many standard premium features. For example, participants can seamlessly share their screens to collaborate on important documents. Users can also react dynamically using expressive emojis, such as a thumbs up or a vibrant heart. Additionally, they can virtually raise their hand to politely request permission to speak.
Nevertheless, guests face several strict limitations. They cannot view the personal phone numbers of other participants. Furthermore, they cannot transmit text messages during the active call or invite supplementary participants. Ultimately, these rigorous restrictions exist to vigorously protect the privacy of all involved parties.
The Importance of Host Verification
The user who originally creates the call link bears the responsibility of approving every guest. This mandatory security measure applies universally to all participants joining without an active account. Because anyone possessing the link could theoretically attempt to join, the host must carefully verify each request. Fortunately, the host retains the absolute power to remove a disruptive guest instantly. Moreover, they can unilaterally terminate the entire call for all participants at any given moment.
Upcoming Calendar Integrations
Interestingly, WhatsApp did not limit its recent blog post to just one major announcement. The development team is also actively constructing sophisticated calendar integrations. Soon, users will effortlessly schedule a WhatsApp call directly from Google Calendar or Microsoft Outlook. Professionals will be able to install a dedicated WhatsApp plugin, link their account securely, and embed a call link into any standard calendar invitation.
Consequently, anyone invited to the scheduled meeting can join the call without needing a registered account. WhatsApp boldly announced that it plans to release this highly anticipated update later this year.
Currently, this incredible feature is available exclusively to users who install the latest application versions. WhatsApp is deploying it gradually; therefore, not every user will immediately spot the option. If the feature remains invisible, it should organically appear across more accounts over the upcoming weeks. However, the company has not yet provided a definitive timeline for global availability. As a result, some users might need to wait patiently before generating their first guest call link.
