Meta Launches Advanced Muse Wonder AI Models
On Monday, Meta officially released a brand-new generation of cutting-edge flagship artificial intelligence models. Consequently, the tech giant aims to aggressively close the gap with fierce competitors like Anthropic and OpenAI in the ongoing AI race.
Introducing Muse Wonder and Muse Wonder Full
Data provided by Meta reveals impressive capabilities for the two new models, named Muse Wonder and Muse Wonder Full. According to their official research blog post, these models achieved scores closely approaching Anthropic’s top-tier offerings in rigorous reasoning, writing, and coding capability tests.
Accessing these advanced models through the Muse application requires a monthly subscription of either $20 or $100. Starting today, both models are publicly available via the Meta Model API and Muse Code. However, the more powerful Muse Wonder Full remains exclusively available to Muse Code subscribers. This premium tier costs either $50 or $200 per month. Additionally, the new models incorporate innovative Active Memory and Active Focus features. These crucial additions effectively reduce the likelihood of the AI agent deviating from its intended target.
Restructuring and the Rise of the Muse Agent
Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg completely reorganized the company’s artificial intelligence division last year. This drastic move followed several significant setbacks in their AI technology research and development efforts. Since that restructuring, the company has successfully launched multiple new AI models and products. These robust tools currently serve a combined massive user base of 3.5 billion people across Instagram, Facebook, and WhatsApp.
Muse is an innovative AI agent application launched by Meta. It can flawlessly operate various software and applications on behalf of the user. Remarkably, within just a few weeks of its launch last month, this application rapidly climbed to the very top of the app store charts.
Addressing AI Safety Concerns
The debut of Muse Wonder arrives precisely as industry concerns regarding cutting-edge AI models and agents continue to escalate. Previously, several instances of autonomous agents losing control occurred, resulting in them invading enterprise systems and disrupting government websites. In response, Zuckerberg attempts to craft a highly differentiated narrative for Meta’s technology. Although the underlying architecture of Meta’s models closely resembles those of Anthropic and OpenAI, he passionately emphasizes a different philosophy. He firmly believes that artificial intelligence should possess immense practical value and empower users, rather than introducing dangerous risks.
Leadership Changes and Development History
In June 2025, Meta strategically hired Alexandr Wang, the brilliant founder of the AI startup Scale AI, to serve as the Chief Artificial Intelligence Officer. Following his arrival, the extensive research and development for Muse Wonder immediately commenced. Muse Wonder represents the magnificent second generation of AI models launched by the AI division under Wang’s exceptional leadership. Furthermore, it stands as Meta’s very first product explicitly claiming to compete directly against frontier models. These elite frontier models typically require an astronomical amount of computing power to operate efficiently.
Meta stated that Muse Wonder will soon provide the foundational underlying capabilities for several specific features within the popular Muse application. Meanwhile, Muse Wonder Full, the vastly more powerful version, remains strictly restricted to paying subscribers of Meta’s advanced AI programming tool, Muse Code.
Enhancing AI Coding Capabilities
These two new models, internally codenamed “Watermelon,” demonstrate a massive improvement in code-writing capabilities compared to Meta’s previous generations. Currently, fierce rivals Anthropic and OpenAI heavily dominate the highly lucrative AI programming market. However, Meta is now striving aggressively to expand its lucrative AI services business aimed at other massive enterprises.
It is worth noting that Muse Wonder experienced significant setbacks during its complex research and development phase. The New York Times previously reported that Meta temporarily paused the crucial model pre-training phase in July. Consequently, this unfortunate delay pushed the highly anticipated model release back to this month.
Over the weekend, Zuckerberg cleverly teased this new AI model while casually hosting a live barbecue stream on Instagram. During the engaging broadcast, he playfully mentioned that one special item remained on the menu: “a massive watermelon.”
