The Googlebook November update brings its biggest memory gain to three laptops. They are the Acer Googlebook 14, ASUS Googlebook 14 and Lenovo Googlebook 15. Android Police reports the update can free up to about 6GB of RAM on those machines. Most other fixes target one group of laptops. What you gain depends on which one you own.
Google announced the update in an official November update post on the Googlebook Community forum. A Google community manager wrote that it is “rolling out with many bug fixes, stability improvements and firmware updates.” The rollout is gradual. Android Police and Android Central list the build as CL3B.260622.286.R2. Both say it carries the Android security patch dated November 1, 2026.
The release follows a rocky launch. Android Police notes that Google already shipped several fixes in October.
Where the 6GB RAM figure comes from
Google’s own forum post is cautious about memory. It lists “improved memory usage for on-device AI” and better multitasking stability on 16GB devices. That fix is marked for the Acer, ASUS and Lenovo models only. A second line covers better browser memory stability with heavy tab workloads.
The bigger numbers appear in a Reddit post about the rollout that several outlets cite. According to Android Police, Google credits updated NPU driver memory management for freeing roughly 3GB to 6GB of RAM. The NPU is the chip that runs on-device AI tasks.
Android Central adds that Google also tuned AICore memory handling. The system can now reclaim memory when background AI services compete with Chrome. Android Central expects fewer unexpected tab reloads and crashes as a result.
Read the 6GB figure as a ceiling, not a promise. The official forum post gives no number at all. Gains will vary by model and workload.
What changes for you, model by model
Google tags many fixes with notes that name the laptops they cover. This table groups the model-specific changes from the official post.
| Model | Fixes aimed at this model |
|---|---|
| Acer Googlebook 14 | On-device AI memory improvement; keyboard and touchpad response after tablet or tent mode; Linux 6.18 kernel stability fixes |
| ASUS Googlebook 14 | On-device AI memory improvement; Linux 6.18 kernel stability fixes |
| Lenovo Googlebook 15 | On-device AI memory improvement; Linux 6.18 kernel stability fixes |
| HP Googlebook 14 | Bluetooth lip-sync fix; hearing aids as audio output; external monitor video fixes; display driver crash fix; HDR dimming fix; firmware restart fix; Linux 6.12 kernel update |
| Dell XPS Googlebook 13 | Same list as the HP model, plus better touch responsiveness and reliability |
Fixes for every Googlebook
Some changes apply to all models. Keystrokes now register on the lock screen right after you wake the laptop or open the lid. The Files app no longer shows an extra pop-up when you copy files. Wallpaper and Style should stop hanging or crashing.
Zoom is more stable with Background Blur, Virtual Backgrounds, Video Filters and 3D Avatars. Unplugging dual external monitors no longer lets the external wallpaper cover the laptop screen or hide the taskbar and icons. Bluetooth Low Energy mice now reconnect after a restart. USB microphones and audio interfaces, such as Focusrite Scarlett and Elgato Wave, can record again.
Google also fixed a boot-slot issue. It could trap a device in a reboot loop after an interrupted update. Settings now opens the official Googlebook Help Center from Tips and support.
Bluetooth and external displays on HP and Dell
The HP and Dell models get the most audio and display work. Google improved Bluetooth audio routing to fix lip-sync lag when you watch videos with wireless earbuds. Bluetooth Low Energy (ASHA) hearing aids can now be picked as the audio output. Before, audio played through the built-in speakers instead.
On external monitors, DRM-protected video such as Netflix could show a black screen while audio kept playing. That is fixed. So is a black screen after pausing protected video for more than 5 seconds. Google also fixed a display driver crash. It could restart the laptop when you unplug a USB-C hub or a chain of linked (MST) monitors. Playing 60 FPS HDR or HLG video indoors no longer dims the backlight and oversaturates colors.
Linux Terminal beta gets steadier
Developers get a long list of Linux Terminal fixes. Shell sessions now stay connected when the laptop wakes from sleep or when you switch tabs. Forwarded TCP ports, including SSH on port 2222, should hold during rapid port changes. The link between the terminal and Antigravity is also more reliable, according to Google.
Window handling is better too. Android Police says closing one Terminal window no longer shuts down the Linux VM while others stay open. Android Central reports a fixed memory leak when you close terminal tabs.
System updates now refresh the Linux VM settings in place. Your Linux files and custom openssh-server settings stay put. Google also says keystrokes and console output inside the terminal are never written to system diagnostic logs.
Kernel, firmware and security details
The Acer, ASUS and Lenovo models get stability fixes on the Linux 6.18 kernel. The HP and Dell models move to an updated Linux 6.12 kernel. It brings Android 16 security patches, USB-C DisplayPort stability fixes and display suspend and resume crash fixes. It also adds HDCP 1.x content protection over Multi-Stream DisplayPort.
Google’s post only says all devices get the latest security patches. Android Central and the independent site GbookHub put the patch at about 60 vulnerabilities. Both also mention a Ti50 security chip firmware update. GbookHub reports that this firmware stops Power off from rebooting the HP model.
How to install the Googlebook November update
- Open Settings, then go to System, Software updates and System update.
- Download the update if it appears, then restart when prompted.
- If nothing shows yet, check again later. Google is rolling it out gradually.
- If a Bluetooth mouse still fails to reconnect, GbookHub suggests unpairing it and pairing it again.
The download is small. GbookHub measured 164MB on a Lenovo Googlebook 15 and 181MB on a Dell XPS Googlebook.
What remains unclear
Not every problem is gone. GbookHub says screen flicker on the Dell XPS Googlebook appears less often but still came back in its testing. In Google’s forum thread, one XPS 13 owner says a second monitor on a USB-C dock is blacking out again. That owner says an emergency update had fixed it days before the November release.
Android Central describes early Reddit reactions as mostly positive. Some owners still report Chrome spell check problems and notification syncing issues after waking from sleep.
Google has not given per-model RAM figures in its official post. It also has not said when it will fix the remaining display issues. GbookHub reports that this build adds hardware support for upcoming 32GB Googlebook models, but Google has not announced them.
