LG Display Unveils Revolutionary FLiPP OLED Technology

LG Display hosted a prominent technology seminar on October 8. During this event, Chief Technology Officer Choi Young-seok highlighted the technical advantages of a new FMM-less OLED solution. As detailed in a recent report about how LG Display develops the FLiPP OLED process without cutting glass substrates to seek first use in IT panels, this innovation transforms manufacturing.

Enhancing Material Utilization

LG Display stated that FLiPP OLED production on eighth-generation glass substrates requires no half-cutting. Manufacturers can fabricate these advanced panels directly in full-frame mode. Consequently, this streamlined approach delivers a significant advantage in raw material utilization.

For example, when manufacturing 23.5-inch panels, the edge utilization rate of the half-cut FMM process reaches only 75 percent. Conversely, the non-half-cut FLiPP method boosts this edge utilization rate above 93 percent.

Unmatched Deposition Efficiency

Furthermore, the half-cut FMM process achieves a mere 40 percent organic EL material deposition efficiency. Meanwhile, the cutting-edge FLiPP technique attains an impressive 74 percent efficiency.

Streamlining Production Timelines

In addition, FLiPP OLED seamlessly integrates with existing WOLED production infrastructure. It confidently supports continuous pipeline deposition operations. Therefore, this remarkable innovation eliminates repetitive procedures and reduces awkward process intervals.

Each substrate requires significantly less deposition time. Overall, the new method slashes the total deposition process duration by 40 percent.

Future Expansion and XR Applications

LG Display plans to apply the FLiPP process initially to IT display panels for tablets and laptops. Eventually, the forward-thinking company will expand this application to wearable devices and televisions. Additionally, this groundbreaking technology fully supports advanced applications within the extended reality sector.
