Microsoft Copilot App Integrates Full Office Experience

According to a recent report by NeoWin, Microsoft has fundamentally reversed its office artificial intelligence strategy. Previously, the company primarily embedded Copilot directly into individual Office applications. However, the tech giant is now pivoting to center its ecosystem around the new Microsoft Copilot app. Consequently, this updated platform seamlessly integrates the complete creation, editing, and collaboration experiences of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Based on recent demonstrations by Microsoft, users can now create and edit Word documents, Excel spreadsheets, and PowerPoint presentations entirely within the Copilot app. Therefore, you no longer need to switch back and forth between standalone Office applications to collaborate with other users.

Enhanced Editing Capabilities

Within this entirely revamped application, users can initiate tasks using simple prompts in Copilot Chat. Alternatively, you can launch far more complex assignments through Copilot Cowork. For instance, a user can request Copilot to generate a Word document based on specific research notes. The system will subsequently open that newly generated document right next to the active conversation interface.

Unlike older versions that could merely generate Office files, the new iteration empowers users to continuously process files directly inside the interface. Furthermore, individuals can ask the AI to rewrite specific content, insert detailed tables, or execute a variety of other modifications. Moreover, you can seamlessly utilize standard Office editing controls to adjust the content manually.

Real-Time Collaboration Features

Regarding collaboration, users can easily share files, insert comments, and co-edit documents with peers all from within the application itself. Any changes made by other collaborators will appear instantaneously in real time. Currently, the supported file types for this integrated editing feature encompass Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

The New Library Section

Simultaneously, Microsoft has launched a dedicated Library section embedded within the Copilot app. This central hub conveniently displays recently accessed Office files, Copilot pages, and AI-generated images. As a result, users can swiftly reopen existing documents or create brand-new files straight from this organized panel.

Storage and Model Selection

Importantly, all your Office files remain safely stored within OneDrive. This secure storage guarantees that your distinct formatting, annotations, sharing permissions, and version histories are fully preserved. When it comes to model invocation, users can deliberately select a specific AI model for their Office tasks. On the other hand, you can enable Auto mode, allowing the system to automatically select the most optimal model based on the specific task requirements.
