Ventoy 1.1.18 Update Brings SteamOS Support and Boot Fixes

According to a recent report by Linuxiac, the open-source USB creator Ventoy has updated to version 1.1.18. This latest release introduces experimental support for SteamOS recovery images. Users can now place these specific images onto a Ventoy USB drive. Consequently, they can boot the gaming operating system directly from the external storage.

Expanding System Recovery Options

The report notes that SteamOS compatibility currently remains in an experimental phase. Therefore, certain devices might experience minor limitations. This new feature targets users who need to repair or restore their gaming hardware. Furthermore, it allows Ventoy to host an even wider variety of system images. You can now keep everything neatly organized on a single flash drive.

Streamlined Mounting Experience

The update also significantly improves the mounting process for various desktop environments. Specifically, the software now utilizes a convenient remount feature in mainstream distributions. This clever addition allows the operating system to directly mount the ISO partition. Previously, users had to perform extra manual steps after booting a live session.

Stable Device Naming

Additionally, this version establishes a fixed device name for the ISO partition. The system now recognizes it strictly as /dev/mapper/VentoyPart. This specific naming convention facilitates much easier recognition. Ultimately, it ensures a highly stable mounting experience across different computer setups.

Resolving Visual Clutter

Meanwhile, the developers have resolved a frustrating visual issue. Duplicate disk icons previously cluttered the sidebars of some file managers. The software now prevents these unnecessary icons from appearing. Furthermore, the tool successfully supports mounting the ISO partition while Clonezilla runs.

Crucial Compatibility Improvements

Regarding boot compatibility, the developers have addressed several critical startup failures. The new version successfully fixes boot issues affecting Fedora 45 Beta and Grml 2026.09. Moreover, the update resolves intermittent data persistence failures within Ubuntu Desktop Live sessions. Consequently, this crucial fix prevents users from losing important changes saved during their work.

Windows and WinPE Enhancements

The release offers notable improvements for Windows and WinPE users as well. Specifically, it fixes an annoying Secure Boot version check failure. The programming team has also added support for custom ISO images based on Syslinux. Finally, the update enhances overall compatibility with the latest iteration of LinuxConsole.
