Apple TV Viewership Record Shattered This September

Emmy Triumphs and Blockbuster Premieres

According to a recent Deadline report analyzing the Apple TV viewership record, the streaming platform just achieved its highest single-week ratings ever. This spectacular surge was driven by securing an astonishing 29 Emmy Awards. Furthermore, the highly anticipated releases of new content, such as Ted Lasso and Mayday, significantly fueled this unprecedented growth.

Just a few short weeks ago, Apple TV obliterated its own historical records by claiming 29 Emmy trophies. The unexpected dark horse hit series, Widow’s Bay, dominated the ceremony, independently sweeping 14 prestigious awards.

A Perfect Storm of Premieres

During this exact same triumphant period, the critically acclaimed Slow Horses returned for an exhilarating new season. Simultaneously, the blockbuster film Mayday, starring Ryan Reynolds and Kenneth Branagh, officially premiered on the platform. Moreover, the universally beloved Ted Lasso concurrently launched its highly anticipated fourth season.

Reports indicate that thanks to this perfect convergence of positive events, the week of September 14 yielded the highest single-week viewership data in platform history. This remarkable achievement represents a massive 67 percent increase compared to the exact same period last year.

Record-Breaking Movie Debuts

Apple proudly announced that the feature film Mayday, which debuted directly on the streaming service on September 4, achieved a historic milestone. During its initial 18 days of availability, it officially became the best-performing movie premiere in the entire history of the Apple TV platform.

Within the lucrative United States market, according to the official Luminate weekly charts for September 4-10, the film aggressively seized the number one position during its debut week. It amassed an incredible 8.7 million streams. Impressively, its popularity remained exceptionally high during its second week, securely holding the number two spot.

The “Emmy Bump” Effect

The aforementioned report also highlighted that, according to internal Apple TV data, Widow’s Bay experienced a monumental surge. After claiming 14 magnificent awards, including the coveted prize for Outstanding Comedy Series, its week-over-week viewership exploded by an astounding 280 percent immediately following the Emmy broadcast.

Analysts noted that this massive viewership spike was particularly pronounced across several key international markets. These essential regions include the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, Brazil, Mexico, Germany, India, Poland, and Spain.

Additionally, the gripping drama series Pluribus similarly reaped substantial benefits from the “Emmy bump.” The show secured six prestigious awards, with Rhea Seehorn brilliantly capturing the trophy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series. Official Apple data confirms that following the glamorous Emmy ceremony, week-over-week viewership for this specific series skyrocketed by an impressive 200 percent.

Strategic iCloud+ Integration

While the prestigious Emmy Awards and the influx of exciting new series undeniably served as the primary catalysts for this viewership explosion, another factor played a crucial role. Apple recently expanded its lucrative iCloud+ benefits, which undoubtedly provided a massive supplementary boost.

Earlier this month, Apple strategically began bundling Apple TV access entirely for free within its premium iCloud+ subscription packages across more than 100 countries and territories. Consequently, this brilliant maneuver simultaneously introduced the premium streaming service to 59 entirely new global markets. This aggressive expansion officially broadened its total global footprint to encompass 170 distinct countries and regions.

For users who prefer a standalone subscription, Apple TV currently costs 14.99 dollars per month. Alternatively, consumers can conveniently access the streaming platform by subscribing to the comprehensive Apple One bundle.
