Apple Prepares a Major Redesign for the MacBook Pro
Launch Timeline and Silicon Strategy
Apple plans to overhaul the MacBook Pro soon. The new machine should debut within a month. Furthermore, this device represents the first touchscreen MacBook. It also serves as the inaugural model featuring a Tandem OLED display. Additionally, Mark Gurman from Bloomberg shared exciting news in his recent Power On newsletter. He revealed that the new MacBook will be significantly lighter than previous models.
Gurman reiterated that the new MacBook Pro will launch before next month. Therefore, fans expect to see the official device before the end of November. Interestingly, the new machine will retain the existing M5 Pro and M5 Max chips. Apple decided to skip the high-end M6 series versions. Consequently, this strategy accelerates the development of the upcoming M7 processor.
A Noticeably Lighter Design
Rumors regarding these MacBooks have circulated for quite some time. Previously, observers only knew about basic paper specifications. These included the OLED screen, touch capabilities, and the Dynamic Island. Past reports merely suggested a thinner chassis. They lacked substantial details regarding the actual physical feel. Currently, exact visual designs remain a mystery. However, according to recent industry rumors, a crucial new detail recently emerged concerning the handling experience.
The upcoming MacBook Pro is much lighter. Apple completely redesigned the internal architecture of the machine. The company miniaturized components and rearranged internal elements. As a result, the overall portability of the device improves significantly. Currently, the 16-inch MacBook Pro weighs up to 4.8 pounds (about 2.2 kilograms). Meanwhile, the 15-inch MacBook Air weighs only 3.3 pounds (about 1.5 kilograms). Therefore, users will immediately notice a substantial weight reduction.
Addressing User Complaints
Gurman did not provide specific weight reduction numbers. Nevertheless, many current MacBook Pro users find their machines quite heavy. This feeling especially applies to the 16-inch model. Fortunately, Apple is actively working to resolve this common complaint.
Software Updates
Furthermore, Gurman mentioned upcoming software adaptations. The official release of macOS 27.2 will introduce specific modifications to the macOS Golden Gate system. Ultimately, these changes will perfectly support the new touch controls and Dynamic Island features.
